Musical Director

Jock McKenzie studied trumpet at the Royal Northern College of Music where he was a joint recipient of the college’s concerto prize. Since 1987  Jock has worked as a musician based in Hampshire.

 

Throughout his career Jock has worked as an instrumental music teacher. This teaching work is augmented by Jock’s role as both director of an area band network – the Portchester, Fareham & Gosport Youth Bands, and since 2004 as the director of the Hampshire County Youth Bands.

 

As a composer Jock is widely published both in the U.K. and overseas; particularly in the specialist field of educational material and ensemble repertoire. Jock undertakes regular commissions for specific compositions and arrangements.

 

Jock works regularly as a freelance trumpet player in a variety of musical idioms.

 

Additional musical responsibilities have included the provision of professional development training to authorities, music services and conservatoires, advisory and editorial work for music exam boards, educational panellist for the International Trumpet Guild and music festival adjudication.
